4. The mTeam – What is it and what role does it play?
mTeam stands for Mediating Team or Mentor Team. It is typically a 3-member team of individuals at a school that utilize CDLI and who assist with some of the day-to-day details of the delivery of instruction to your students. The three members of the team are as follows:
-
Administrative – This is a school administrator, either the Principal or Assistant Principal
- Responsible for CDLI students in their school and the overall operation of CDLI within their building, e.g. scheduling, equipment, report cards, etc.
-
Support – A person able to do some troubleshooting, etc.
- Assists with the technical components of CDLI. May assist with computer setup, hardware troubleshooting, student accounts, videoconference configuration, etc.
-
Guidance – The school's guidance counsellor assists with Special Circumstance Students.
- Assists with assessment distribution, co-ordinates with the CDLI Guidance Counsellor with course selections, etc.
Below you will find some guidelines to help as we work together this year:
mTeam Guiding Principles
Collectively, the mTeam is responsible for the following:
- Providing adequate monitoring/supervision during both online and offline e-learning periods.
- Providing adequate supervision for core lab activities in all science courses. Note that, for safety reasons, this is compulsory and must be in place before registering students in any online science course.
- Scheduling appropriate synchronous and asynchronous time for students to complete the course (i.e. 2 credit course – 10 periods per 14-day cycle, 1 credit course – 5 periods).
- Using the assigned slot before alternate slots are considered.
- Making every effort possible to align the school timetable with the CDLI timetable.
- Making every effort to limit the number of e-learners per course to 6 or less with an absolute maximum of 8.
- Attempting to limit the total number of e-learners online simultaneously to a maximum of 8 due to available equipment, connectivity and supervision limitations.
- The maximum online workload is four courses per student, but in special circumstances, this limit may be increased if it is deemed to be in the student's best interest.
- Aligning the school calendar to the 14-day CDLI yearly calendar. For example, day 2 for CDLI should be day two at your school.
- Consulting CDLI personnel for changes in registration.
- Setting up and maintaining a school-based mTeam to support e-learning.
- If possible, identifying and registering a student E-Tutor as an important part of the mTeam.
- Communicating with parents and prospective students about the CDLI e-learning model.
- Encouraging students to take care of all CDLI equipment supplied to the school.
- Ensuring that CDLI has accurate mTeam information, including active e-mail addresses.
- Notifying CDLI Teachers of any significant occurrences in their particular school (i.e. sickness, death, catastrophic events, family issues, student issues, etc.) to ensure CDLI is sensitive to the needs of students and staff during difficult times.
- Downloading and distributing student reports according to the scheduled CDLI reporting periods.
- Informing CDLI personnel of students with existing IEP’s, or of students who might require an IEP.
- Providing consumables/supplies to the level prescribed by the curriculum guide (i.e. science courses - lab supplies for science courses, art materials, etc.).
- Administrator passwords must not be shared with students.
- Student machines will be left on overnight to ensure that scheduled Windows™, anti-virus and other software updates occur. Students may be required to reboot machines in the morning to ensure reliable online connections.
- Providing priority access to CDLI equipment to CDLI students.
- CDLI equipment should not be made available to the public.
- Schools using the All-in-One Printer for non-CDLI purposes will be responsible for supplying additional toner cartridges. (CDLI will supply one toner per year.)
- The first point of contact for reporting connectivity trouble is the NLSchools schools technician or network administrator for your zone. CDLI should then be contacted so we can inform our teachers of the outage.
