Add the page content

You should still have the file open from step 2

This is the step where you add text and images to create the page.  Since this exercise is about layout, text and images are provided.  Before you continue, you will need to save the files below on your hard drive.  Right-click on the link and select Save Target As, then navigate to My Documents, unit2 and save each file for use below.

Read the each sequence below, and then view the video associated with it to see how to perform them.   Make sure you save the file frequently.
 

 

 

  • Put a heading on the page using artistic text
    • select the Text tool
    • click at the top centre of the page
    • type
      Main Heading
  • Modify the heading font and alignment
    • select the Pick tool
    • select a font that you like from the font list
    • change font alignment to centred 
  • Modify the heading size
    • drag the corners of the text box so that the text reaches from the left guideline to the right guideline
  • Add paragraph text frames
    • select the Text tool and add three paragraph frames
      • select Text tool
      • draw a box in the top third of the left column, just below the heading
      • draw a box in the bottom third of the left column, leaving the middle third empty
      • draw a box in the top two thirds of the right column, leaving the bottom third empty
    • join the boxes so that text will flow from one to the next
      • select the Pick tool
      • click on the first text box (top of column 1) to select it
      • click on the text flow tab (bottom centre)
        The cursor will change shape
      • click into the second text box at the bottom of column 1
      • click on the second text box to select it
      • click on the text flow tab at the bottom
        The cursor will change shape
      • click into the third text box (top of column 2)
    • That's it.  When you place the text, it will flow from one box to the next
  • Place the text
    • Use Note Pad to open and copy the text file
      • open Note Pad (Start, Accessories, Note Pad)
      • open the ipsum.txt file by navigating to My Documents, unit2 and double-clicking on the filename
      • copy the text
        • select all the text by pressing and holding the CTRL key and pressing the letter a
        • copy the text by pressing CTRL and the letter c
    • Go back to Corel Draw and paste the text
      • select the Text tool
      • click into the first text frame (top of column 1)
      • paste the text by pressing CTRL and the letter v

The text will flow through all three text frames

  • Format the text
    • select Text, Edit Text from the menu
      A text edit window will appear
    • click on the Options button
    • click on Select All
    • change the font to Times New Roman
    • change the font size to 11 point
    • change the alignment to left justified
    • click on Ok to exit the edit text window

    That's it.  All text frames should have text in them

 

  • Add image1
    • click File on the menu and select Import
    • navigate to My Documents, unit2 and double-click on image1.jpg
      The cursor will change to image placement.
    • place the image half way down the left column
  • Add image2
    • click File on the menu and select Import
    • navigate to My Documents, unit2 and double-click on image1.jpg
      The cursor will change to image placement.
    • place the image at the bottom of the right column

  • Print the page
    • click on the Print icon
    • click on the Print button
