Layout a 2 column grid

The grid is used to align text and graphics objects on the page.  To make alignment easier, you will

  • turn on Snap to Guidelines
  • turn on Snap to Grid
  • place guidelines on the Page

Open the template

  • Start Corel Draw
  • From the choices, Click on Open File
  • Navigate to My Documents, printtemplates
  • Double-click on the file printtemplate.cdr to open it

Layout the Grid

Laying out the grid requires the following steps
 

 

 

  • Save the file with a new name. 
    Before you modify the file, you will need to save it with a new name
    • Select File, Save As from the menu
    • Navigate to My Documents
    • Make a new folder and rename it unit2
    • Double-click on unit2 to open it
    • Give the file the name u2s1l4activity02 (unit 2 section 1 lesson 4 activity 02)  The file extension .cdr will be appended automatically.
    • Save the file
  • Make sure Snap to Grid and Snap to Guidelines are on.  If not, turn them on.
    Every time you open a file, you may have to redo this step.
  • Drag the ruler onto the page to create guidelines.
    Left click on a ruler, hold it down, and drag onto the page.  A guideline will move onto the page with the mouse.  Release when it is in position.  If you miss, click on it again, hold and drag into position.
    • put vertical guidelines at 0.5, 4.0, 4.5, and 8.0 inches
    • put horizontal guidelines at 0.5 and 10.5 inches

That's it! The grid is ready for use.  Save the file, but do not close it.  Go to Step 3
