Develop Print Brochure
Developing content for the brochure is an application of the knowledge and skills you learned and developed in Sections 1 to 4 of this unit.
As a brief review, you are applying
- Visual design to the development of an overall document design for the brochure. Copy, pictures and illustrations are the components you are using in building this visual design or layout
- Information creation and organization to the development and presentation of copy (text content for the brochure)
- bitmap and vector drawing software to the development and production of pictures and illustrations to be included in the brochure
- desktop publishing software principles and practices to the organization and placement of the content in the brochure. This includes
- development of a brochure template, complete with a stylesheet,
- importing, placing and formatting text with appropriate styles
- importing, placing, and setting appropriate attributes on, pictures and illustrations
Assigned activities
You have planned the brochure and its contents. It is time to develop the brochure.
Please complete the following
- Using any text editor (Notepad, Word, …)
- Write the text content (copy). Save frequently.
- Using Corel Photo Paint, Painter Classic or any available bitmap editor
- Create at least one bitmap image of an appropriate size (determined by your mock-up), and of content suitable to the brochure. It can be any graphics format that the DTP program will accept. Save frequently.
- Using Corel Draw
- Create at least one vector image (technical illustration) of content suitable to the brochure. It can be created any size and scaled later, or it can be created the exact size needed. Save frequently
- You may need to export the image as a bitmap to include in the publishing program
- Using the designated desktop publishing program
- Create a two-page brochure layout. For 3-fold use 8.5 by 11 (letter) size. For 4-fold use 8.5 by 14 (legal) size. Place gridlines and guidelines in the layout at appropriate places.
- Develop a stylesheet, with a style for each different required text format
- Import and place your copy, keeping in mind the location of front and back panels and the proper sequence of content on the other panels.
- Apply style tags to text to format as appropriate (headings, captions, body text, bullets, etc.
- Import and place your pictures and illustrations.
- Apply attributes to picture/illustration frames if text wrap or other effect is required
- Manipulate the text frames to get copy in the places you want as per your mock-up.
- Save the file frequently
- Print the design and verify that it is presented as you wish.
- Edit and modify as required until it is correct
- Print the document on a single page (both sides of the page) and fold to make the brochure
- Create a suitable entry in your course portfolio
- include copies of files for original copy, images, illustrations, and publishing.
