Outcomes

In this lesson you will

describe the terms type, typeface, and font;
describe the six different categories, or classifications of type;
describe the attributes which are used in the design of type;
define the following terms as they apply to effective type usage: type effect, type texture, serif/sans-serif, justification, emphasis and contrast;
create a series of text blocks to illustrate different type classifications, attributes, and which demonstrate effective type usage.

Students will:

understand the basics of visual design
employ the elements and principles of visual design in creating images, and to construct print and web layouts
use typography effectively
use illustration software to create effective page layouts
