Assessing solution ideas is a process of looking at each idea and determining how it rates when a specific criteria is applied to it. The process is repeated with each criteria. It is usually best to start with a criteria and assess each solution with that criteria before you move to the next criteria. That allows you to 'keep track' of how you assessed each solution and apply the criteria more uniformly.
Activity
Actions you need to take
Assess the solution ideas
Open the design portfolio file designstage2/d2-part6.htm.
Enter the criteria in the criteria column of the table.
If you have more than 5 solution ideas, copy the table and paste it further down the page, below the existing table. Repeat as many time as you need to.
Go to the the design portfolio page designstage2/d2-part4.htm. You can open it in a browser window or in FrontPage. Read solution 1 and the description you have of it.
Go back to part 6, assess solution options and rate solution 1 on the first criteria. Record the number in the proper place
Read solution idea 2 and rate it, repeat for all the solution ideas you have.
Move to criteria 2 and repeat the assessment for each solution idea. Repeat for all criteria and all ideas
Evaluate the solutions ideas
When you have the numbers recorded for all the solution ideas, total them at the bottom of each column. Look at the idea with the highest score. This should be your best bet for a solution. You will need to examine it more closely. If, for example, you determined that this was too difficult to do, or that resources were not available, they this is not a good option, regardless of how high it scored.
You will need to discuss this with your teacher before making a final decision
Publish the portfolio
Publish the portfolio to you design portfolio web site. Notify you teacher that you are ready to discuss the choice of a solution.
