Investigation 4: Converting Between Rectangular Form and Polar Form

Converting a complex number written in rectangular form, a + bi, to polar form:
  • Write the complex number as a rectangular coordinate (a, b).
  • Follow the same procedure for converting rectangular coordinates to polar coordinates: find r using and find using the tangent ratio.
  • Express the polar form as r cos + r i sin or r cis.
