- If two x-intercepts exist, then there are two unequal real roots. The graph crosses the x-axis twice.
- If one x-intercept exists, then there are two equal real roots. The graph touches the x-axis once.
- If there are no x-intercepts, then there are no real roots. The graph does not touch the x-axis. This does not mean that the function has no zeros. It only means that it has no real zeros.
