Focus K: Absolute-Value and Inequalities
- x =
3
- Essentially, any number between -3 and 3 will satisfy the inequality. In other words, x < 3 and x > -3. This can also be written in compact form,
-3 < x < 3.
- Any number greater than 3 or less than -3 will satisfy the inequality.
i.e., x > -3 or x < -3.
Note the specific usage of the words "and" and "or." The word "and " is used when the interval is between two values.
