Focus E: Solving Rational Equations With Algebra

  • Cross-multiplication in equations 1 and 3 will readily get rid of the existing fractions. Remember cross-multiplication can only be used when there is just one expression on either side of the equal sign.
  • To eliminate the fractions from equations 2 and 4, each expression will have to be multiplied by the L.C.D. Of course, this process will also work with the other two equations, but cross-multiplication is an easier procedure.
