This chapter project requires you to use graphs of various types of functions to model the features of an illustration. What illustration, you may ask. Well, you can choose to illustrate anything you desire. A cartoon character, a race car, your favourite teacher or a motorcycle are just some of the endless possibilities.
To create your drawing you may use some or all of the functions encountered in this unit of study, as well as other functions you have already met. Examples of such may be quadratic, functions of circles and ellipses, trigonometric functions, and exponential and logarithmic functions. You will not be expected to finalize your choices of functions until you have worked through most of this chapter.
Begin by reading the description of the example provided in the textbook on page 135. The initial stage of your project should be drawing your rough sketch and transferring it to a coordinate grid. As you do this, bear in mind two things:
Also, it is very likely you may want to revise your sketch as you progress with your project. Thus, you might choose to do your original illustration in pencil.
Good luck with this project--you will enjoy the process! Be creative and don't be afraid to use your imagination.
