Outcomes
In this lesson you will learn
- to factor polynomials by removing a common factor
- to factor the sum and difference of cubes
- to factor quartic expressions that have a quadratic form
- factor polynomials by grouping to find a common factor
- factor polynomials by grouping to get the difference of two squares
By the end of this section students will be able to:
- analyze relations, functions and their graphs
- use tables and graphs as tools to interpret expressions
- analyze and solve polynomial, rational, irrational, absolute value and trigonometric equations
- analyze and solve polynomial, rational, irrational and absolute inequalities
- model real-world phenomena with a variety of functions/relations
- determine the equations of polynomial and rational functions
- factor polynomial equations
Prerequisites
To be successful in this lesson, it would be helpful to know the following:
- how to factor a trinomial of the form ax2 + bx + c by decomposition
- how to recognize and remove common factors
- the properties of perfect square trinomials
- how to use the Rational Root Theorem and the Factor Theorem to find roots of polynomial equations
- how to use a number line (sign graph) to solve polynomial inequalities
