Outcomes

In this lesson you will

• explore circles as parametric equations on a graphing calculator
• use parametric equations in design problems

By the end of this section students will be able to:

• demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between angle rotation and the coordinates of a rotating point
• represent circles using parametric equations
• describe and apply parameter changes within parametric equations of circles
• solve problems involving the equations and characteristics of circles and ellipses

Prerequisites

To be successful in this lesson, it would be helpful to know the following:

• familiarity with using a graphing calculator
• the trig values for 30⁰ , 45⁰ , and 60⁰
