A mathematics journal gives you the opportunity to put in writing what you have learned with respect to a topic. This may be written in a notebook or electronically and stored in a folder.
A journal is different from your regular notebook in that it provides you an opportunity to stop and think about what you are doing and reflect upon its use. By explaining and analyzing in writing, you will learn to use the language of mathematics and to demonstrate your understanding of the topic under consideration.
These entries will be a means of self-assessing whether you are competent in the area under consideration or whether you need to do some review of the topic. Your teacher may use this as a means of formal evaluation or simply a means of detecting how well you are progressing in the concepts and ideas of the unit or course.
Journal entries will be referenced throughout the course.
