Outcomes

In this lesson you will

  • For Case Study 1: Toast
    • Apply the skills and processes developed in the unit to perform an experimental investigation.
    • Analyze the results of the experiment and calculate the corresponding probabilities.
  • For Case Study 2: Birthday
    • Apply the skills and processes developed in the unit, especially with respect to the complement of an event.
    • Apply binomial probabilities to solve a problem.

Case studies allow you to apply what was learned in the unit to new situations. They are designed to cover most, if not all, of the outcomes that were stated in each of the previous sections of this unit.  There are no new outcomes for this section.

Introduction

In this section, there are two Case Studies which apply the concepts and material that you learned in this unit.  Case Study 1: Toast and Case Study 2: Birthday are intended for students in this course.  Pick the one that appears most interesting to you and complete it. 

If you something more challenging, you might also consider Case Study 3:Rolloin Dice, which is intended for Mathematics 3205 students. 

Your teacher will give you further directions about how to submit your work and how you will be evaluated on it.
