Outcomes

In this lesson you will

  • For Case Study 1:
    • Apply the concepts associated with circles to the construction of a cone.
    • Use trigonometry to calculate various measurements for the cone.
    • Apply the formula for the circumference of a circle.
    • Use the concepts associated with a cone such as slant height.
  • For Extension 1:
    • Modify the construction in the Case Study 1 to include work on a hemisphere as well as a cone.

Case studies allow you to apply what was learned in the unit to new situations. They are designed to cover most, if not all, of the outcomes that were stated in each of the previous sections of this unit.  There are no new outcomes for this section.

Introduction

In this section, there is one Case Study and one Extension which apply the concepts and material that you learned in this unit. Do Case Study 1 and then if you have the time and interest do Extension 1.

Your teacher will give you further directions about how to submit your work and how you will be evaluated on it.

Prerequisites

To be successful in this lesson, it would be helpful to know the following:

  • Formulas for circumference and area of a circle.
  • Definition and application of diameter and radius of circle.
  • Concepts and formulas associated with a cone.
  • How to calculate trigonometric relations.
