Lesson

In Focus G you will review the laws of exponents. You will work with expressions that contain zero, negative and rational exponents. The laws of exponents have been collected and written again for you on page 167 of your text book. However, if you would like to see a simple example of each of them before you continue, click here.

This lesson is devoted to using these laws to simplify expressions. There are no new concepts. It is very much a drill type of lesson. The aim of which is to enable you to become proficient with using the laws of exponents. You text book provides several examples for you to use as models for doing the assigned exercises. Also, there are several other examples provided in this lesson.

Manipulation of expressions that contain exponents is an essential skill that will be used extensively by you if you do any post secondary studies involving mathematics. Concentrate on the examples and be sure to get help from your on-line teacher if you have any difficulty with this skill.
