Refer back to the data you collected for the Chapter Project in Section 1.1. Use the TI83 to determine the equation of the curve of best fit for this data. Then use the TRACE function to determine the value of x that minimizes the total area of the gardens.
Alternate to finding the equation of the curve of best fit, you could derive the equation for the total area based on the relationships involved. The method of doing this is indicated in the diagrams below:
Write the function for total area and then enter it into the TI83 and draw its graph. The use the TRACE as indicated in Method 1.
