Overview

This unit consists of four sections as follows:

Section 01 Integral Exponents
In this section you will review the definition of zero and negative exponents. You will multiply and divide expressions that contain powers. You will also review and apply the laws of exponents.

Section 02 Radicals
In this section you will review the definition of radicals and in particular explore the notation for radicals, viz. . You will use the laws of radicals to simplify, add, subtract, multiply and divide expressions that contain radicals. You will also learn how to rationalize the denominator of a fraction that contains radicals.

Section 03 Rational Exponents
In this section you will learn the definition of rational exponents, i.e. the meaning of the expression , where m and n are integers (n ¹ 0). You will apply the laws of exponents to simplify expressions containing rational exponents. You will also learn the relation between rational exponents and radicals and you will learn how to use this relation to help simplify expressions.

Section 04 Review
There is no new material in this section. It is simply a review sheet for the entire unit along with the solutions. It also contains a unit quiz.
