Riley Mercer – A Star On and Off the Ice

Posted on Feb 10, 2022

CDLI is pleased to highlight Riley Mercer, a Level III student from Bay Roberts who is currently enrolled in Biology 3201, English 3201 and Math 3200 with CDLI.

Riley is a high-achieving individual in two disciplines - academics and hockey. He began playing the sport when he was 4 years old and by the age of 9 he was suiting up in goalie gear. He attributes his love of hockey to his family - particularly to his dad, older cousins and brother. Riley has received awards for highest overall academic average, Athlete of the Month, Bantam AAA League MVP and NL Major Midget Hockey League Top Goaltender. However, his greatest accomplishments on the ice was when he was selected in the 2020 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) draft as a second-round pick (the 31st selection) for the Drummondville Voltigeurs, the team he continues to excel with today.

Riley’s teachers consider him to be a polite, considerate and dedicated student (even attending classes while commuting to and from games). He is bright, hardworking and an exceptional communicator.

Riley plans to continue his hockey career in the QMJHL for the next 2 to 3 years and see where it takes him in the future while also focusing on post-secondary studies.

CDLI would like to congratulate Riley on all of his accomplishments, both on and off the ice!
