Lydia Hardy Awarded Prestigious Loran Scholarship

Posted on Dec 14, 2021

CDLI is pleased to announce a very special achievement by one of our students, Lydia Hardy of St. Stephen's All Grade in Rencontre East.

This year, Lydia is one of 36 exceptional young Canadians who were selected from a pool of 5,194 applicants, based on evidence of character, commitment to community service, and leadership potential.

The selection of a Loran Scholar is unique in its attention to a young person’s character. Integrity, courage, grit, and personal autonomy are considered better indicators of overall potential than standard academic measures. To discover these traits, they administer the most comprehensive and thorough scholarship selection process in Canada. 400+ volunteers interviewed 545 semi-finalists and then invited 88 finalists to their National Selections on January 31st and February 1st. Each of the 36 Loran Scholars was interviewed or assessed by up to 12 different people over the course of three months.

Loran Scholars receive opportunities to explore, develop, and share their talents over four years of undergraduate study at any of our 25 partner universities. Each Loran Award includes an annual stipend of $10,000 and matching tuition waiver, access to $10,000 in funding for summer internships, one-on-one mentorship, and annual retreats and scholar gatherings.

The staff of CDLI send Lydia our sincerest best wishes on this incredible achievement!
