You must now begin to select functions that, over appropriately restricted domains, will model the features of your illustration. The best way to accomplish this is by considering each part of your sketch separately and think of the particular equation that will model it. Begin by modeling the shape and then apply transformations to get the shape at the desired location.
Remember also that often many different functions can be used to create similarly shaped curves over restricted domains.
If you are still having trouble with specific features, don't forget that you are still going to learn about other types of functions as you progress through the remainder of this chapter.
It may prove to be beneficial to use graphing technology to try out various rational functions. This will allow you to see more examples of the properties discussed thus far in the chapter.
