Enter the following functions in your calculator.

The result should be the "Star Trek" symbol, as illustrated below. If you do not get the proper symbol, carefully check to ensure everything is entered correctly; in particular the restricted domains.

Things to note when entering equations and their restricted domains in the TI-83 calculator:
- The symbol "/," meaning "such" that, is simply the division key on the calculator.
- The restrictions on the domain must be written in brackets. Otherwise the graph will not take into account the correct values for x. As well, any restricted domain that is usually written in compact form, must be split into two inequalities before entered. For example, if the restricted domain was 4 < x < 9, the two inequalities would be x > 4 and x < 9.
- The inequality symbols are found under the TEST key, which is above the MATH button.
- The word and is found under the same TEST key. However, once here, you must scroll over to the LOGIC feature to access it. Press ENTER to select option #1.
