Posted on Jan 28, 2025

CDLI would like to congratulate Aidan Sampson from St. Lewis Academy! Aidan completed Math 3201, Biology 2201, and Social Studies 3201 with CDLI. He was selected as a 2024 Loran Scholar, receiving $100,000 towards his university education. Out of more than 5,000 applicants across the country, he was one of just 32 selected. Aidan is also the first-ever Loran Scholar from Labrador.

The Loran Award offers a four-year leadership enrichment program, financial support for undergraduate studies, and diverse opportunities for experiential learning. It also provides a long-term, supportive community of peers and mentors who exemplify strength of character, a deep commitment to service, and exceptional leadership potential.

Over the years, Aidan has received numerous awards, including the SSNL Scholar Athlete, Athlete of the Year, the NLTA Merit Award, and the Governor General's Award. He has been on the Honour Roll at St. Lewis Academy every year since he began school, consistently earning the highest average in both junior high and senior high.

Aidan served as the president of his school's student council and has been involved in student leadership since elementary school. He has participated in the Tutoring for Tuition Program throughout high school. An avid athlete, Aidan has won several regional first-place awards in badminton and volleyball. He co-captained his volleyball team, received the Most Valuable Player Award at the regional tournament, and helped bring home the provincial Boys A volleyball banner for the first time in school history.

Aidan's passion for sports and athletics led him to complete two Aboriginal Coaching Modules. He also represented Team Newfoundland and Labrador at the North American Indigenous Games in Halifax. Since Grade 7, Aidan has been an active member of the Junior Canadian Rangers, achieving the rank of Master Corporal in his local troupe. Through the JCRs, he has participated in several marksmanship competitions and training camps. Additionally, Aidan was involved in the NunatuKavut Youth Engagement Program, where he worked with elders to help connect his community's youth with their ancestry.

Aidan is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology at Dalhousie University. We wish him continued success in all his future endeavors!
