CDLI is proud to shine our student spotlight on Grade 12 student Veronica Sawyer of Laval High School who is currently enrolled in Physics 3204, Social Studies 3201 and Math 3208 with CDLI.

Within her school and community, Veronica is well-known for her involvement. Most recently, Veronica was awarded the Provost Scholarship and Women of Excellence Award by Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida. She was selected from a highly qualified applicant group in recognition of the University’s belief that she will have a successful and rewarding tenure at ERAU. Previously at Laval High, Veronica has been recognized for her academic achievement by being placed on the President’s Honour Roll, and receiving Certificates of Distinction from CDLI for her grades in Physics 2204, Chemistry 2202, English 2201, NL Studies 2205 and Career Ed 2202.

Veronica has been involved with a number of school and community organizations in her hometown of Placentia, which demonstrate how well-rounded of an individual she is and how varied her interests are. She is currently the President of Allied Youth (AY) Placentia with whom has been involved for the past four years. She is the Principal Bass Clarinetist in the Senior Youth Orchestra where she has been active for the past five years. She has been involved in multiple school and community drama and musical productions. She participates in Provincial and National debates. Veronica is even a part of the school chess club and even found time to participate in Miss Achievement Newfoundland and Labrador!

Outside of her school and community pursuits, Veronica enjoys spending quality time with her loved ones, and she also works part-time at the local Chinese-Canadian restaurant Hoi Pun.

Given her passion and interest in Aviation, Veronica intends to pursue a career in the field upon her graduation in June. Eventually, she would like to work as a Commercial Airline Pilot for WestJet and see the world. This will enable her to check off destinations on her travel bucket list and live each day to the fullest!

CDLI congratulates Veronica on her scholarship and wishes her the best of luck in all of her future endeavours!
