Madelyn Young – Awarded $25 000 Memorial University Alumni Entrance Scholarship

CDLI would like to shine its Student Spotlight on Level III Student Madelyn Young of Belanger Memorial School. Madelyn is enrolled in Advanced Mathematics 3200 and Biology 2201 with CDLI.

Madelyn has been selected as the honored recipient of a $25 000 Alumni Entrance Scholarship from Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Madelyn enjoys participating in her local school and community through many avenues. Some of these include volunteering, school sports, and tutoring. Madelyn even works as a front store clerk at her community’s local pharmacy!

As a volunteer, Madelyn is the President of the student council and assists with the Breakfast Program at her school. She also takes the time to participate in the Tutoring for Tuition program; providing learning support for other students. As an athlete, Madelyn has been active on many sports teams at her school. These have included the Softball, Badminton, Basketball, and Ball Hockey teams. Madelyn is also a member of the Belanger Volleyball Team and serves as its Captain.

Madelyn has been recognized previously for her achievements. In athletics, she has been recognized as the Most Valuable Player of her volleyball team. She has also received the Most Sportsmanship Award for basketball. In academics, Madelyn has received an Honors Award every single year since she began junior high school (Grade 7). She has also been recognized as the Valedictorian of the 2023 Graduating Class at Belanger Memorial.

In her free time, Madelyn is able to enjoy some of her other interests. She likes to spend time with her friends, take walks on the beach, and enjoy beautiful sunsets. She also loves reading Colleen Hoover books and enjoys swimming whenever she can.

Madelyn’s long-term dream is to become a Pharmacist. After completing high school, she will be attending Memorial University at the St. John’s campus. There she will pursue studies that enable her to make her dream a reality. We know that the spotlight will continue to follow you along your future path, Madelyn.
