Port Hope Simpson, Labrador student Kendra Burden has been selected to receive an $80,000 Schulich Leader Scholarship to pursue her Bachelor of Science Degree at Memorial University.
Schulich Leader Scholarships are the largest STEM scholarships in Canada. With 50 outstanding students selected in Canada each year it is all but guaranteed that this group represents the best and brightest Canada has to offer. These students will make great contributions to society, both on a national and global scale. With their university expenses covered, they can focus their time on their studies, research projects, extra-curricular activities, and entrepreneurial ventures. They are the next generation of technology innovators.
Kendra is an exemplary student who has consistently made the Honour Roll and principal’s list at Bayside Academy while enrolling in a challenging academic program that includes Physics, Chemistry, and Advanced Mathematics with CDLI. She was selected from her school to attend the WISE program. Kendra is a member of the school council and the graduation committee at Bayside Academy. She has been an active member of school varsity teams including cross-country running, hockey, volleyball, and basketball. Outside of school, Kendra has actively participated in many different pursuits, which include being a leader in the Junior Canadian Rangers, representing the community in the Labrador Winter Games, and helping out with community fundraisers.
Kendra is an intelligent, hard-working young woman who works well with others and gives of her time to help others. She represents herself, her school and her community well.
