Julie Young wins $80,000 Schulich Leadership ScholarshipPosted on Jun 22, 2016
A young student from St. Alban's will begin studying Engineering at Memorial University this fall thanks to an $80,000 scholarship. Julie is a graduate of Bay d'Espoir Academy in Milltown. She was selected for the Schulich Leader Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to high school graduates enrolled in science, technology, engineering or math in Canada and Israel. Julie was nominated for her outstanding academic and extra-curricular achievements by teacher Tammy Garden.
Julie is very grateful to the Schulich Foundation, for not only giving her a scholarship but a brighter future as well. The Schulich Foundation Scholarship is paving her way to success.
Julie is very involved with music. In addition to being part of the school’s award-winning Triple Trio and High School Choir, she has been a Kiwanis Festival participant since Kindergarten, and teaches her own private lessons. Julie also participates in the Lion's Club Local Speak off every year. She has won from grade 7 to grade 12 and she has won regional as well. Julie is a French tutor and part of the Bay d’Espoir’s French Council. She has travelled to Quebec on a French immersion trip and participated in Encounters with Canada. Julie is a Bay d'Espoir Student Council representative in additional to Local CYN (Community Youth Network) volunteer.
She has been one busy students taking on challenges and opportunities to have new experiences and expand her horizons.
Julie has completed Advanced Math 3208 and Physics 3204 with CDLI.
