Edam Cenotaph

Edam, Saskatchewan

The Cenotaph was erected prior to August 1934, by the people of Edam and district. It was constructed in memory of those who lost their lives in the Great War (1914-1918).

The stone mason who built the Cenotaph is unknown. Sam Cole Sr. collected the stone used in the construction of the Cenotaph.

In 1990, a plaque was purchased from Remco Memorial, that included dedications to those who lost their lives in World War II (1939-1945) and the Korean War (1950-1953). Sam Cole and Andy Hindmarsh attached the plaque to the north side of the Cenotaph in 1990.

Remembrance Day Services have always concluded by placing a wreath at the Cenotaph. This Service has been in existence since June 1, 1927, the date of the formation of the Legion Branch 106.

Remembrance Day has always been special for the Community of Edam. The Schools and Businesses close and a Service is held.
