Stoney Creek, Ontario
Constructed in 1913 in memory of American and British soldiers who fought in the Battle of Stoney Creek - War of 1812.
The Women's Wentworth Historical Society (1910) and the First Women's Cultural Group in Canada initiated the government
to construct the monument. On June 6, 1913, the monument was unveiled by Queen Mary via telegraph from Buckingham
Palace. The architecture was designed by Restrick. It is constructed of
stone and is 100 ft. high. This represents one foot of
stone for one year of peace. The monument was restored in 1992 and opened
by the Lieutenant Governor. It is now maintained and
operated by the City of Stoney Creek.
