Restoule Cenotaph

Restoule, Ontario

Constructed in memory of those who paid the supreme sacrifice in the World War 1914- 1918.

The Cenotaph was donated by the Restoule Women's Institute.

In June of 1939, the cenotaph was unveiled by Mrs. William Gaell and dedicated by Reverend John Witzell. It was located in the school yard of S.S.#1 Patterson, more recently know as Restoule Public School, which was subsequently closed at the end of the 1991-92 school year.

Branch 639 of the Royal Canadian Legion received its charter on April 29, 1995 and opened in the former school building after extensive renovations had been completed. As the Cenotaph was in poor condition, the stone was refurbished in September of 1997. In 1998, Royal Canadian Branch 639 plans to erect a new monument and have an additional name added for World War II.
