Navan, Ontario
Located on a main thoroughfare in front of the
Navan Memorial Centre some 50 km east of downtown
Ottawa. Constructed on June 28, 1987, in memory
of Navan Veterans by Navan Veterans and Friends.
The Navan Memorial Cenotaph Committee was
headed by Herb Deavy, a local veteran, which was
successful in raising the necessary funds from
private donations. Veterans Affairs Minister, the
Hon. George Hees, present at the dedication,
commented that it was a great effort and didn't
cost the taxpayers a cent. The story was printed
in the Orleans Express, now The Star, on July 1,
1987. Herb has a great scrapbook and video which
he will leave to an appropriate local institution
for posterity.
