Essex County War Memorial

Windsor, Ontario

The Essex County War Memorial was constructed in 1924 in memory of those young men of Essex County who laid down their lives in the Great War 1914-1918. Also at a later date, tributes to the men who died in World War II and the Korean War were added.

The Memorial is constructed of Canadian granite. In 1964-1965 the 106 ton monument was moved from the intersection of Giles Blvd and Ouellette to the City Hall Square. To achieve this move, the monument had to be taken down stone by stone and reassembled in its new location. It was re-dedicated on November 11, 1965 by the Royal Canadian Legion.
