On the 29th of June 1921, this handsome granite statue was unveiled, with great ceremony, in Alvinston. It depicts a young man holding up the broken chain of tyranny. On the base are the names of 15 area men killed in the First Great War. Eight names of men lost in World War II were inscribed after 1945.
