Carleton Village Cenotaph

 

 
Carleton Village, Nova Scotia

The Carleton Village Cenotaph was constructed in 1988 in memory of all who served in World War I and World War II from Gunning Cove, Carleton Village and McNatts Island.

The monument, located in St. Paul's United Church cemetery, was designed and constructed by Enos. O. Demings at his own expense and he provides the upkeep and maintenance. The dedication ceremony was held on Nov. 26th, 1988, with the Clergy of the Church and members of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 63 in attendance. Every November there is a wreath laying ceremony held by the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 63 with Public attendance.

Inscribed on the monument is,

"IN GRATEFUL REMEMBRANCE OF ALL THOSE FROM GUNNING COVE, CARLETON VILLAGE AND McNUTTS ISLAND WHO SERVED IN PAST CONFLICTS AND IN MEMORY OF THOSE WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES.

AT THE GOING DOWN OF THE SUN AND IN THE MORNING WE WILL REMEMBER THEM
