Placentia War Memorial

The Placentia War Memorial was unveiled on June 3, 1920, in memory of the young men from the Parish who lost their lives in the Great War (1914-1918). It was the first Monument erected in Newfoundland to honor the men who served in World War I.

The pedestal is fashioned from Rutland Italian Marble in which several inscriptions are carved, including the names of the 33 men from the Placentia Parish who died in World War I. On the pedestal stands a life size statue of the Saviour carved from Carrara marble. The Monument weights over 12 tonnes.
