Neguac Legion War Memorial

Neguac Legion War Memorial

Neguac, New Brunswick

The base of the Cenotaph was constructed during October/November of 1972. The Cenotaph itself was bought from the local funeral home.

The Cenotaph was paid for by the Ladies Auxiliaries of Branch #61 by holding several fund-raising activities, such as bingo and walkathons, after which the residents were able to raise the required funds. The Ladies Auxiliaries in 1972 comprised of about 30 ladies.

Neguac is situated on Miramichi Bay, approximately 40 km from Miramichi City.

The main occupations of the residents are lumbering and fishing. Others work outside the community at pulp mills, mining, etc.

The records indicate that the first settlers of the region were displaced Acadians and probably arrived in the years 1756-1757.
