Stonewall, Manitoba

Unveiled on October 7th 1922 in memory of World War I (1914-1918), World War II (1939-1945), and Korea (1950-1953) veterans killed in action.

"The monument is made of Tyndall stone, resting on a base of re-inforced concrete and stone from the home quarry, measuring 24 feet by 24 feet. This is surrounded by a terrace with steps mounting on opposite sides. The measurements are at base 6x6, top 4 1/2 x 4 1/2. A stone urn finishes the top. On four sides are four bronze tablets bearing the 102 names. Lower on each side a loin's head forms an outlet for the fountain, which is worked by an electric motor tank. Still further down are four basins for receiving the flow of water. There are also two outlets for lawn service. The architect was Mr. Gilbert Parfitt of Winnipeg." "1:45 p.m. - Vice-Regal party leave Government House, Winnipeg. 2:45 p.m. - School Children of Stonewall, Rockwood, and Teulon Municipalities at Municipal Hall to welcome the Vice Regal party. 3 p.m. - Vice Regal party arrive at Municipal Hall. Band of the Princess Pats "God Save the King." Band and School Children "O, Canada." Guard of Honour of Returned Soldiers from Stonewall and Rockwood District reviewed by His Excellency. 3:10 p.m. - School Children march to their postion in Park at Monument. 3:20 p.m. -- Vice Regal party after reception at Town Hall by Officers and Councillors of the local municipalities proceed in their carriages to the Monument with the Band of "The Princess Pats" and Guard of Honour of Returned Soldiers of the Stonewall and Rockwood District. 3:30 p.m. -- Introductory remarks of History of Monument by Mayor H. A. Arundel, and Reeve Edward Power. Hymn - "O God Our Help In Ages Past." Prayer and Dedication of Monument by His Grace, The Most Reverend The Archbishop of Rupert's Land. Unveiling of Monument and address by His Excellency, The Governor General of Canada, General, The Right Honorable Baron Byng of Vimy. Boy Scout Hymn, - "Father in Heaven"."
