Darlington and Area Memorial Park

Darlingford, Manitoba

The War Memorial was constructed in 1921 in memory of the Veterans of the Great War 1914-1918 and Veterans of World War II 1939-1945.

This Memorial is the only free-standing memorial building in Manitoba with the sole purpose of commemorating the war dead. Inside the memorial are two black marble tablets which bear the names of the men who served and died in World War I and II.

The idea of the Memorial Park was that of Ferris Bolton, a pioneer farmer and politician of Manitoba whose three sons were killed in France in 1917. The Memorial was designed by Arthur A. Stoughton, the first head of the School of Architecture, University of Manitoba. The Modern Experimental Farm designed the landscaping for the park.
