Liberation Park

Cobble Hill, British Columbia

Constructed in 1920 in memory of those who fought in World War I.

In 1920, the "Ancient Order of Foresters" built a Cenotaph on a small triangular lot (Block 24, Plan 1809) in the centre of Cobble Hill Village to commemorate those who fought in World War I. To this day, this site is used as a gathering place on Remembrance Day and has historical and cultural significance to the community. The "Ancient Order of Foresters" received title in trust to Block 24. In 1963, the property reverted to the Crown.

In 1990, the CVRD applied for a Crown Land grant for Block 24 and a lease for the closed portion of Holland Avenue. A five-year lease was received from the Ministry of Transportation and Highways for the closed road portion of the park but, as yet, a Crown Land grant has not been received for Block 24.
