Branch 169 came into
existence in 1942 and the building was
officially opened in April 1947. By
Armistice Day a flag pole was erected and
a Cenotaph built by early members R.
Gilliland and the stucco work by Frank
Lockwood who was president for four (4)
years. This Cenotaph was a focal point
for Remembrance Day ceremonies for many
years until the plot of ground it stood
on was needed for other purposes.
However, a new monument was erected in
1989 close to the Legion Building. It is
made of local rocks from a mountain
overlooking Sproat Lake. It is plain and
simply says: |
"AT THE
GOING DOWN
OF THE SUN AND IN
THE MORNING
WE WILL REMEMBER THEM"

Much of the work done was
voluntary and the cost to the Branch was
$1,180.00.
