North Vancouver Cenotaph

Victoria Park Memorial

North Vancouver, British Columbia

The North Vancouver Cenotaph, located in Victoria Park, was constructed in 1923 in memory of the citizens of the City and the District of North Vancouver who gave their lives during the First World War. The monument was later rededicated to commemorate the fallen of the Boer War, the Second World War, the Korean War and various peacekeeping missions around the world.

The Cenotaph was designed by Blackadder and MacKay, Architects, and erected by the British Columbia Monumental Works of Vancouver. (Henry Blackadder was a resident of North Vancouver and served during the First World War.) The 1995 Cenotaph Enhancement Project upgraded the surrounding area of Victoria Park with new memorial markers, a commemorative lawn, extended walkways, lighting, a drinking fountain, floral plantings and additional benches.
