The Medicine Hat Cenotaph was constructed cira 1920 in memory the deaths of World War I, World War II, and the Korean War

This monument was erected by their grateful fellow citizens to everlasting memory of those men and women of Medicine Hat and District who laid down their lives for their country in active service in the Great War 1914 - 1918. Lest We Forget. (Inscription on the cenotaph).

Erected after the First World War with 235 names including nurse N.E. Green (obit). Another 81 names were added for those who died in World War Two (1939 - 1945), after the War in Korea the Korean War dates were added. (No deaths recorded 1950-1953).

This memorial was made possible by contributions from #34 S.F.T.S. Association members and families, Branch #17 Royal Canadian Legion and Private Donations. The site was provided by the City of Medicine Hat.

Under then British Commonwealth Air Training Plan, #34 S.F.T.S. operated from Medicine Hat Airport from April 8, 1941, to November 17, 1944. The school was awarded the prestigeous E Pennant for efficiency in training many pilots for allied air forces in World War II.
