Locating the Epicenter

Description

This video focuses on the procedure used to locate the epicenter of an earthquake. Three siemograph stations of different geographic locations are needed to record the arrival time of the P-waves and the S-waves. Scientist calculate the difference in arrival times and plot this on a trave-time graph to locate the distance from the epicenter. This is done for three recordings and then a process called triangulation is used to find the exact location of the epicenter. A sample question is included at the end.
