Paleomagnetism, including polar wandering and magnetic polarity reversals, support the idea of a mobile Earth and thus support the theory of plate tectonics. Much of this evidence can be seen on the ocean floor extending from oceanic ridges where the main rock type is basalt which contains iron rich minerals. These minerals keep a record of the magnetism of Earth when they form. Object
