Convection and Seafloor Spreading

Description

This video focuses on the idea of a mobile seafloor which spreads outward at divergent boundaries called oceanic ridges. The mechanism proposed by Arthur Holmes which explain why plates move is convection in the upper mantle called the asthenosphere. This idea of a spreading ocean floor explains why ocean sediments are thicker away from a ridge, why the age of ocean crust is older away from the ridge, and why ocean depths increase away from a ridge.
