Plug-ins / Tools for Viewing Resources

In this collection you will find (1) documents that give teachers help in deciding how to handle evaluation and assessment in their classroom and (2) tools that teachers can use to do evaluation and assessment.

There are a number of Internet resources that provide teachers with strategies for evaluating student learning or reporting student achievement:

Creative Classroom Online's Tough to Teach - Building Good Test-Taking Skills give some suggestions to teachers on how to prepare their students to take tests.

In the Alaska Department of Education & Early Development Math and Science Framework, there are three good resources to help teachers of mathematics understand how to assess student learning: Part 1 deals with assessment considerations and relating assessment to content standards, Part 2  gives a collection of assessment strategies, and Part 3 gives tools for self and peer evaluations.

Performance Stations in Mathematics describes how performance stations allow students to either discover or revisit concepts. They can also be used as an evaluation tool to assess student knowledge of concepts and their ability to use what they know in new situations.

Awesome Library - Assessment provides relevant assessment resources in the areas of Authentic Assessment , Portfolios , and Rubrics.

Math Rubrics is a downloadable PDF file which gives many formats of Math Rubric for use by teachers.

Since rubrics are now widely used in performance assessment, you might want to visit the Performance Assessment - Ideas and Rubrics page of the Chicago Public Schools system. This site gives detailed explanations of how to use rubrics, why we should use them them, and how to create them.

Teachers who wish to do online assessment may try the following:

FunBrain.com - Quiz Lab enables teachers to integrate games and thousands of assessment quizzes into their daily lesson plans. It has the Internet's largest database of online assessment quizzes.

Quiz Center at DiscoverySchool.com offers an online quiz generator. Quiz Center is a powerful tool you can use to create, administer, and grade quizzes online. Without any Web development background whatsoever, you'll be able to make online quizzes that provide instant feedback to you and your students. You will be required to join My Discovery and set up a Custom Classroom (free service).

A number of gradebook programs are available for download through the Internet. These programs allow teachers to record results and report marks to students.

Class Builder is a full-featured class management software . It can be operated off-line or hosted on a server. It is available for $29.95US/yr. A 30 day demo is also available. in both Windows and Mac versions.
