The island of Newfoundland was first discovered by the Vikings (Leif Ericson) in AD 1000 and then again, in 1497 by John Cabot (only 5 years after Columbus discovered America). Our province is made up of two parts...the island part which is called Newfoundland and the mainland part which is called Labrador. Ours is the tenth province of Canada. We became a province in 1949. Conception Bay is the northeast bay closest to St. John's (our capital city). Conception Bay South is, of course, at the south end of this bay.

Personal Interests

My family, which includes my husband and our three children, takes up a lot of my time. Besides teaching, I am interested in the Girl Guide movement (and was once a Sparks leader). I do manage to find other things to do such as: play chess with my children (but they are better than me), swim (not often), sew (not often enough), read (when the children are in bed and all is quiet), work on the computer (probably too much), listen to music (see read), practise playing the clarinet (I'm getting better), take photographs (mostly of my family) and make video-tapes (of various school events and again of my growing family). I enjoy using our school's digital camera in the classroom and all around the school to make booklets and worksheets, as well as to post pictures of us and our work on the Internet!
