Constructed in 1924 in memory of those who lost their lives in World War I and World War II.

On August 26, 1924, the unveiling and dedication service was held at 1:30 p.m. in Memorial Square, Wingham, Ontario. The unveiling and address were done by Sir Arthur Currie, G.C.M.G., K.C.B., Commander in the Canadian Armed Forces in France.

The monument is 17 feet high with a bronze statue of a soldier in full marching order on top. The entire cost for the monument was $7,197.00 which was debentured for 10 years.

On the West Side (front) of the monument is the inscription:

"ERECTED BY THE CITIZENS OF WINGHAM IN MEMORY OF THOSE WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR KING AND COUNTRY IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918."

Following is an Honour Role listing the fallen soldiers of World War I. Underneath the Honour Role is the inscription, "Their name liveth for evermore in Christ shall all be made alive."

The North Side of the monument lists the names of the battle grounds of World War II: Cambrai, Passchendael, Arras, Courcelette, Somme, Hooge, Sanctuary Wood, Amiens, St. Eloi. Following is an Honour Role listing the fallen soldiers of World War II. This plaque was added after 1946-1947.

On the East Side of the monument is a list of soldiers who have since died: Fred Aldinfton, Norman E. Nicholls, Arthur Shropshall.

The South Side of the monument lists the names of the battle grounds of the Korean War: Mons, Givenchy, Ypres, Bourlon Wood, Vimy Ridge, Lens, Festubert, Douai, Langmarck. On May 14, 1986, a plaque was dedicated to those who lost their lives in Korea.
