Rothesay Common Cenotaph

Rothesay, New Brunswick

The Cenotaph was constructed in 1920 in memory of Canadian Servicemen, who gave their lives for Freedom and Country.

The Cenotaph was erected by the I.O.D.E. Chapter of the day. For the past few years the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #58 has looked after the maintenance and upkeep of the Cenotaph. The Town of Rothesay has maintained the ground and flowers during the season.

The Cenotaph has the names of the veterans who lost their lives during World War I, World War II, and the Korean War.

All the Remembrance Day services are held at the Cenotaph on Nov. 11th. The services include a parade, service of remembrance, and placing of the wreaths.

This year (2000) the Legion is embarking on a project to upgrade and repair the Cenotaph. The weather has taken a toll whereby the inscriptions are becoming hard to see, and the groundling is breaking away from the base.
